About Moono

Moono is the new project by Chef Hoyoung Kim, building upon the success of his renowned Michelin 1 starred Jua. Taking its name from the Korean word for “gateway,” Moono symbolizes a literal “door” to another world and represents a passage to diverse cultures. Housed in a stunning three-story building that is a recognized landmark of New York, our mission is to serve as the ultimate gateway, introducing the vibrant and evolving Korean food culture to New York City, captivating the palates of the new generation.

Chef Kim

Chef Hoyoung Kim is chef/owner of Moono and its sister restaurant Jua.
Born and raised in South Korea, Chef Kim studied cooking abroad at the Ecole Ferrandi in Paris and trained under Chef Pascal Barbot at the three Michelin starred L’Astrance and Chef Jungsik Yim of the two-starred Jungsik. After his eight years at Jungsik, which saw him move up the ranks from line cook to executive chef, Chef Kim opened up his first restaurant Jua, a contemporary Korean restaurant centered around a wood-fired grill. Jua received its Michelin star in 2021.
